Why Your 2023 Nsfas Application Could Be Rejected

Getting NSFAS funding can be a stressful process, especially while you wait for the approval letter. You can reapply for NSFAS funding if you were rejected earlier.Numerous applications for student funding have been rejected by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
Why Your 2023 Nsfas Application Could Be Rejected
In the academic year 2023, funding applications closed on 31 January. Over 1 million applications were received from students hoping to study at universities or colleges in 2023, according to NSFAS.
It is important to note, however, that not all students who applied for funding qualified.
- There have been approvals for funding for 941 491 applicants pending registration at public universities of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
- A total of 206 701 applications are awaiting evaluation, and 37 854 are awaiting confirmation from third parties that they are financially eligible.
- Unfortunately, 317 335 applicants did not meet NSFAS funding requirements, and they were not funded.
First-Time Entering (FTE) SASSA applicants have already received funding decisions from NSFAS, while other students are still waiting for approval from the financial aid provider.
In addition to the SASSA funding list, institutions have been released a list of students returning from the SASSA program. Email and SMS notifications were also sent to applicants based on the information they provided.
There are a few reasons why an application is rejected. The following are among them:
- According to Department of Home Affairs records, the applicant is deceased
- Financially, the applicant does not qualify (household income exceeds the threshold).
- An applicant has already reached the highest qualification level eligible for NSFAS funding
- NSFAS cannot make a funding decision due to insufficient information provided
- An applicant who provides an invalid national identification number and/or names and surnames
- Academic Eligibility Criteria are not met by the applicant
- There is a possibility that the applicant has exceeded the N+ rule
- As the applicant is funded by another bursary provider, they are not eligible for NSFAS funding
It has been announced that NSFAS appeals have opened; unsuccessful students wishing to appeal their funding decision can do so through their myNSFAS accounts, where they can upload supporting documents.
The chances of their rejection being overturned and receiving funding for 2023 are good if they meet NSFAS bursary criteria. Applications for appeals are due by 20 February 2023 for unsuccessful NSFAS applicants.
What To Do If Your NSFAS Application Is Unsuccessful
- You can access myNSFAS by logging in.
- You can track funding progress by clicking the ‘Track Funding Progress’ button.
- You can check the progress of the application on the progress tab.
- An appeal may be submitted if you receive an unsuccessful message regarding your application. Click the ‘Submit Appeal Tab’ to do so.
- A reason for your unsuccessful application status can be seen on the ‘Application Appeal’ page.
- After that, you can choose why you want to appeal.
- Your reason must be supported by certified documents.
- You can submit an appeal by clicking ‘Submit Appeal’.
An appeal will be processed by the bursary scheme within 30 days after it has been lodged with NSFAS.
Applicants who successfully appeal their higher education funding will receive comprehensive funding. As well as paying tuition and accommodations, NSFAS bursaries also provide transportation, food, and book allowances to students.
