Asylum seekers and special permit holders in the country are also entitled to apply for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant disbursed by the South African Security Agency (SASSA).

SRD grants were introduced by the South African government during the Covid-19 pandemic, to provide basic financial assistance to South African citizens, refugees, asylum seekers, and special permit holders.

The R350 grant is an important source of income for all qualifying applicants.

Asylum Seekers and Holders of Special Permits

One slight difference separates the application process for asylum seekers and holders of special permits from the usual one. SASSA’s SRD grant website accepts online applications.

You can pick up your SRD grant money at any Pick ‘n Pay or Boxer store if you are an asylum seeker or a special permit holder.

Submit Your SRD Grant

Once your SRD grant application has been submitted and your SRD status indicates success, a pay date will be confirmed. You can then pick up your grant payment at any Pick ‘n Pay or Boxer store.

Your Payment ID (SASSA system-generated number) and cellphone number used to apply for the grant are required to collect your grant.
