Nsfas Rejects Over 300 000 Applications For 2023

Students hoping to study at tertiary institutions in 2023 applied for more than 1 million scholarships through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme. Despite this, not all students who applied for funding were eligible.

It is estimated that more than 300,000 financial aid applications for the 2023 academic year were turned down by the financial aid provider because they did not meet the funding criteria.

Nsfas Rejects Over 300 000 Applications For 2023

The bursary scheme announced this in a statement providing updates on the funding decisions for 2023.

Applications for funding under the NSFAS 2023 cycle were due by midnight on 31 January 2023.

According to Nsfas, Sassa beneficiaries who are First Time Entering students (FTEN) receive their funding decisions immediately after applying.

Nsfas has released the funding list for non-Sassa

“Nsfas has released the funding list for non-Sassa applications and returning students, and applications were notified of their status through SMS and email,”

The bursary scheme has approved funding for 941,491 applicants anticipating enrollment at public universities and TVET colleges.Approximately 317,335 applications were denied funding due to non-compliance with NSFAS guidelines.37,854 applications are waiting for financial eligibility assessment and confirmation from third parties, while 206,781 remain awaiting evaluation.

In response to Nsfas’ outreach to prospective students, they have urged them to check their messages, emails, as well as their myNsfas accounts to see if they have received any updates on their applications.

Track Your NSFAS Application On WhatsApp

There is now also an option for students to contact the scheme via WhatsApp on 078 519 8006 or using a USSD code of *120*67327#.To date, approximately 11 239 applications have been appealed for the scheme.

The appeal process can be conducted via the myNsfas account, where successful students will be directed to the appeal tab for uploading supporting documentation.Student appeals must be submitted within 30 days of receiving application results.

Furthermore, Nsfas has placed officials temporarily in universities and TVET colleges across the country in order to help students with their queries and challenges.

On campus grounds until 17 February 2023, NSFAS officials will be present.
