NSFAS Appeals Are Open For 2023 Funding

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme received more than one million bursary applications. Funding may not be available to all of these students. An appeal is allowed if they are rejected.
NSFAS Appeals Are Open For 2023 Funding
A new appeals process has been announced by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). Individuals whose bursary applications have been unsuccessful can apply for an appeal. 20 February 2023 is the deadline for appeal applications.
A comprehensive bursary program is offered by NSFAS to South African students from poor and working-class backgrounds. Numerous students needing financial assistance for tertiary education are beneficiaries of these NSFAS bursaries.
The NSFAS bursary application portal received more than a million applications by Friday, 20 January 2023. By 2023, at least 156 000 students will be funded.The NSFAS bursary programs were not funded for the 2023 academic year for many students who applied.
Failure to receive funding from NSFAS can be appealed by unsuccessful applicants if they feel their applications deserve funding. To qualify for a bursary, applicants must fulfill the Nsfas criteria.
The Appeal Process For An Unsuccessful NSFAS Application
- You can access myNSFAS by logging in.
- You can track funding progress by clicking the ‘Track Funding Progress’ button.
- You can check the progress of the application on the progress tab.
- An appeal may be submitted if you receive an unsuccessful message regarding your application. Click the ‘Submit Appeal Tab’ to do so.
- A reason for your unsuccessful application status can be seen on the ‘Application Appeal’ page.
- After that, you can choose why you want to appeal.
- Your reason must be supported by certified documents.
- You can submit an appeal by clicking ‘Submit Appeal’.
Within 30 days of receiving an appeal application, NSFAS will respond.
New academic eligibility criteria will also be introduced by NSFAS in 2023.
- A course credit pass rate of 50% is required of First Time Entering Students (FTENs) starting in 2023
- The pass rate for progressive course credit at the university must be 55% for students who are continuing their studies.
- NSFAS funding must continue to be available to return University students who meet ongoing academic eligibility requirements. As the academic progression criteria increase over time, from 55% to 60% will apply.
Successful applicants receive comprehensive funding through NSFAS appeals. Fees for tuition and housing are covered by NSFAS bursaries. The university will also provide students with a transportation allowance, an allowance for meals, and an allowance for books.
