Process of Checking the Status of a SASSA Reconsideration

There can be no underestimating the importance of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, as millions of people rely on it every month. Vulnerable South Africans need to know whether they qualify for crucial relief mechanisms.

Introduction for checking the status of a SASSA Reconsideration

During the first week of August 2022, more than 12 million applications were received for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa). There are, however, some applications that will not be approved for payment by the agency.

The decision by Sassa to reject applications for SRD grants can be appealed by the applicants. They do this by requesting a reconsideration of their SRD grant.

Sassa Status Check Appeal

Your appeal will be reviewed by the body charged with evaluating reconsideration requests, and a decision will be issued. You will then be able to check the status of your Sassa reconsideration.

Here’s How To Check Your Sassa Reconsideration Status

  • Go to Sassa Appeals Website
  • Enter ID number
  • Enter telephone number
  • Click Track appeal

The Sassa Call Centre can also be contacted at 0800 601 011.

Tribunal for Appeals on Social Assistance

There has been a change in the process for submitting SRD appeals. Reconsideration requests for SRDs must now be submitted to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals.

Sassa said appeals could take a few months to process. In their explanation, they explained, “The appeals tribunal has three months to consider the appeal application and respond to it.”.

Final Words

In the event that an applicant is unsuccessful, the decision of the tribunal will be the final decision, and there will be no further internal recourse available to them. The applicant may, however, appeal the decision of the Independent Tribunal to the High Court within 180 days.
